How Can I Be a Good Neighbor?
Are you ready for a fantastic vacation in the town named the best beach town in Virginia? We hope you have a wonderful time while being considerate of the folks that call Cape Charles home. Here are a couple of suggestions on how you can be a Good Neighbor during your stay.
The Good Neighbor Program
The Vacation Homeowners of Cape Charles are a group of vacation homeowners who love Cape Charles and aim to better the town through fundraising efforts and community engagement. As a group, we launched The Good Neighbor Program in 2023 to enhance communication between the town and our guests by communicating ordnances and best practice guidelines. It is our hope that you will help us by doing your part. You might see this Good Neighbor magnet displayed in your home, but even if you don’t, you can abide by these basic suggestions.
Golf Carts
Part of Cape Charles’ charm is the golf cart friendly streets that everyone loves. If you rent a cart during your vacation be sure to follow these basic rules of the road!
Beach Etiquette
Cape Charles has a beautiful public beach that boasts of the best sunset views on the East Coast. Help us keep the beach clean and welcoming by following these simple rules.
Dogs are not permitted on the beach between 9:00AM and 9:00PM April 1st through Labor Day (even on leashes). Pick up pet waste and dispose of it.
Pick up litter and dispose of it in the beach trash cans.
No golf cart parking on the beach or sidewalks.
Be considerate of your beach neighbors and keep music to a reasonable level.
Secure your umbrellas and beach items to prevent them becoming airborne - the beach wind can be wild!
No walking or digging in the dunes.
Car and Boat Parking
With the influx of vacationers in the summer street parking can be tight, so be aware that you should only park in the spaces directly in front of your vacation home, unless otherwise directed (some houses have driveways or back yard parking). There is a public parking lot behind the new buildings on Mason Avenue where you can park extra cars. Boat parking on the town street is only permitted for 48 hours and is enforced by the police. The parking spaces on Mason Avenue are back in parking only and this is strictly enforced. No one wants a ticket on their vacation!
Crime
Cape Charles has very little crime, but be sure to secure your personal items like bikes, chairs, and beach items during your stay. The police are very responsive, so if you see any infractions please report them. Any non-emergency calls can be made to the dispatch office at 757-678-0458. If you have complaints or suggestions for the town they can be reported through this link. The speed limits are strictly enforced so watch the speed reduction as you enter town from Route 13 and be mindful of golf carts, bikers, and pedestrians.
Thank you for making Cape Charles a great place to live and vacation!
