Meet The Hoyt Cousins

Our home is named Cape Cousins. It is owned by Ian and Joanna Hoyt and Del and Jennifer Hoyt. We each visited Cape Charles separately and fell in love. We planned a joint trip and stayed the summer of 2019. We each have 5 children (the cousins) and had limited renting options that didn't have us exceeding the maximum number of renters. We quickly started looking at land and properties available and when our realtor showed us this lot, we bought it.

Our home makes a great rental if you have a larger family. It holds not only larger families, but even extended family members and friends. We made the home children friendly by offering crafts and games galore. We also have a separate "living" area, so that the kids can have their own space to watch movies, etc after a long day on the beach. Our new screened-in-porch has direct sight of the gazebo in the park where you can not only see, but also hear the bands on Saturday nights.

As a group, the 4 of us designed what we would like in a beach house and found an architect to bring those designs to life. Our home truly is unique and one we can call our very own. Ian and Del did most of the work themselves….including, but not limited to, the shed, porches, tile work, trim work, painting, staining, etc.

Our children range in age from 6-18. The oldest is off to the University of South Carolina this fall and her siblings and cousins will miss her tremendously. The youngest is about to complete kindergarten. We not only built a house and vacation together, but also live directly across the street from one another back at home in Powhatan, Va.

We love so many things about Cape Charles that it’s hard to narrow it down. I tell people all the time, after vacationing on the Outer Banks for decades, this was the first beach I visited with my children that also allowed me to read a book while on the beach. Our teens love that they have freedom here to walk around, shop and visit the candy store and ice cream shops. We love paddle-boarding and catching hermit crabs.

Our favorite spots to eat are:

*Cravings….you’d think we’d be more partial to the Jefferson, but we can never have too many Tazwells! *AJ’s….no burger in this country compares to an AJ’s smash burger in Ian’s opinion. The pasta is also spectacular and unique with its little kick of spice.
